EGERTON GAME RANCH

LOCALITY:
Egerton Game Ranch is situated approximately 120km south of Kimberley, on the northern bank of the Orange River

PROPERTY SIZE AND DESCRIPTION:
The ranch covers 2 881ha and has approximately 10km of unspoilt Orange River frontage. The vegetation consists of riverine bush, open bush and grass plains, broken hilly Karoo veld and Acacia type thorn trees. The area is rich in plant diversity and is malaria and bilharzia free.

The following species of game occur on the ranch (numbers are approximate):

• 20 Black wildebeest
• 12 Burchell's zebra
• 40 Impala
• 800 Springbuck
• 250 Mountain reedbuck
• Common duiker
• Steenbuck

HISTORY:
In 1985 Egerton was converted to a game farm, all the internal fencing was removed and a 2,5m high perimeter fence was erected. Gemsbuck were first introduced in 1969, red hartebeest in 1974, black wildebeest in 1979, eland in 1987, zebra in 1995 and impala in 1997. All the other species are endemic to the area. A large number of Bushman engraving sites are situated on the farm, including a site of a British camp during the Anglo-Boer War.

IMPROVEMENTS:
The large farmhouse consists of 4 bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, dining room, pantry, 2 bathrooms and an office. There is also a double garage, 6 stables, 2 engine rooms, outside wash, and storeroom as well as 4 labourers' cottages. Two boreholes supply the homestead with fresh clean water.

In 1989 a hunting / river rafting camp was built on the banks of the Orange River. It consists of 6 reeded bungalows, all with en-suite facilities, 4 of which are built on platforms, a kitchen and dining room/lounge, open-air eating area, a bar overlooking the river and a conference room.

Hunting Safaris
During the cold winter months hunting safaris are conducted with local and overseas hunters being catered for.

White Water Rafting

Visitors to Egerton never have a dull moment!

A white water rafting business aimed at the corporate and leisure market is conducted during the summer months. A list of our high profile companies is available on request.

The business sees an annual turnover of approximately 200 - 230 people a year throughout the summer months. Egerton is the venue for the South African White Water Rafting and Kayak Rodeo Championships.

The following activities are available on Egerton: hunting, white water rafting, 4x4 trails, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, fishing, game viewing, bird-watching, abseiling, beach volleyball and conference facilities. Egerton Game Ranch is fully established with a sound infrastructure.
